Windows XP SP2 Freezes Randomly

Is it situated near the floor? ihave a compaq laptop. As i tried different OS and reinstalled and so on.. I looked in Event Viewer and for both times when my computer froze today, in the Application Log, it had errors for a source from "VSS" and "Event Manager".

Sorry, there was a problem flagging this post. They want you to keep up to date but boy howdy some of them are NIGHTMARES! These can be cleaned but the procedure varies by model (this happens on desktops also but it's more obvious and easier to deal with).

Now the wierd part is that after installing motherboard drivers and graphics card drivers it would work pretty much perfect and i could play games and have multiple heavy programs running I can't pinpoint any software problems. Sorry Have a look here (sounds similar)... In event viewer logs I don't see any errors, just normal activity until the freeze time, and then usual boot-logs when I force an hardware reboot.
So that sounds like a pretty common problem i guess. We do wish that the program came with a Help file that went into detail about this issue, though. The freezes don't occur at a specific time either, sometimes it will occur 5 minutes after turning on the computer, and sometimes it will happen after 2 hours of activity on My computer random hangs, so basically it freezes and becomes completely unresponsive. If either of these works, the computer is not REALLY locked up and it's almost certainly a software problem (fix: reinstall Windows). Is there a word for a statement which is false but comfortable to believe in?
