My guess is that my drive had suffered some sort of surge that had blown out the drive's internal USB adapter... By following this document, now my Seagate external hard-drive is detected and now I am able to access. I don't think I'm going to be successful. Lo and behold, when I plugged the drive back in again, Windows recognised it. Go to disk manager in your administrator tools through control panel and do a quick format of the drive to ntfs and name the volume whatever you wish.
