thank you Dude200821 perfect resolution. The problem is, I don't have an XP installation disk. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Can't fix it please help.
Now I have a backup operating system ready to go whenever XP crashes again, if I don't end up using it regularly. I also got the Dell XPS M1210 for almost 3 years. Should i attach my hard disk as a slave to another machine and then format my drive and install Windows XP again? So with this site's suggestions, I pressed f2, found how to disable the hard drive, to get the machine to boot from the cd-rom, and used the chkdsk /p command. from there the steps listed above worked as billed.
