Is this just something I'll have to put up with? My trouble stemmed from a corrupted file from Vista SP1 according to tech support from HP. I wa sable to press f8 to get to safe mode with networking option and access the internet and check my solution and response from Norton iot was a corrupt download! Windows Vista Won't Boot Black Screen
If you posted here please respond to this thread to try to get our posts back. I was facing same issue for 7 days, when I saw this solution, I thought how it can work, but I tried and its working fine now. I went away for the night.
- In short, I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, has anyone been able to isolate which update causes corruption of the ntoskrnl.exe file resulting in
- Dell wanted me to reset everything to factory settings before I could send it back to them.

Seems to be a common enough Vista stuff-up from the look of these comments, sure there has to be a solution. Vista Black Screen Fix Only trouble is you have to do this everytime until we find a fix. Now still I have this blank window after login prompt and unfortunately alt+ctrl+del brings up a window with several options like change password etc…but no Startup Task Manager. Now that all of Windows was gone, still no BIOS screen.We also had the other dead laptop after an update but that one was the famous DV6000. The same thing happened.After letting the machine sit a bit, I decided I had better turn it off again. Thx. Source i did the f8 trick and it didnt work at first..
